1. Know the difference between fact and fiction. Myths, half-truths and downright lies about Congress, the president and just about everyone associated with Capitol Hill abound on the internet and are happily passed around by seemingly intelligent people. Dont fall for them any faster than you would for a chain letter that showed up in your mailbox. And remember chain e-mails can originate outside the country and inside prisons. Theyre often calculated to turn Democrats against Republicans, Republicans against Democrats and everyone against the president.

2. Reliable sources abound. Check them out. When you want to know who said what, and who didnt, dont trust blogs or websites with titles like HOW to STOP the DIRTY (fill in the blank) from Destroying America. Turn instead to major online and print newspapers and magazines and to National Write Your Congressman http://www.nwyc.com, Fact Check, Politifact and Snopes are also valuable tools. Compare reliable news sources and unveil your own truth.

3. Remember, TV newscasters love to shock your socks off. So keep your feet on the floor and watch out for dire predictions and wild speculation. Even well established news sources can slant the truth until its hard to find, Worst case scenarios are often touted as whats most likely to occur. So, dont believe everything you hear.

4. Dont bury an issue before its dead. Theres a difference between an issue and a bill. The bill may have died, but the issue didnt. Dont think hot-button issues like immigration, energy, abortion and gun regulations are dead because a bill failed in one chamber or the other. If its hot, you can bet it will be back.

5. Write your Congress person. Americans have one representative and two senators in Congress. Let them hear your voice before they vote on an issue. Tell them how you feel about an issue that impacts your business, your family, YOU! Youre the expert in this case, not them. Youre the one living and working under the laws theyve passed. So, let them know and see what they say before the election.

According to a recent IBOPE Inteligência interactive survey, 53% of adults plan to spend time with mom on Mothers Day, and a total of 59% do not wait for the holiday to express their love. Instead, 30% say they told mom they loved her within the past 24 hours and 29% within the past week.

Looking back on their own families, 51% say Mothers Day was more important than Fathers Day, while only 1% say more emphasis was placed on Fathers Day. For 45%, both days were celebrated about equally.

The most popular ways to celebrate Mothers Day are with a gift (46%), a card (44%), a phone call (41%), flowers or a plant (34%), and taking mom out to dinner (30%).

When asked whether Mothers Day is more or less important now than in the past, 58% see no difference, 21% believe it is now less important and 15% say more important. A majority 56% agrees Mothers Day has become too commercialized and takes away from the real meaning of love and appreciation for mothers.

Only adults whose mothers are living were asked questions about how they will celebrate Mothers Day and how often they express their love. All adults were asked the other questions.

IBOPE Inteligência conducted an online survey of 2,100 US adults. The margin of error is +/- 2.2 percentage points. A sampling of IBOPE Inteligência’s online panel, which is representative of the adult population of the US, was invited to participate from May 4-7. Slight weights were added to region, party, age, race, religion, gender and education to more accurately reflect the population.

Desktop Alert Inc., today announced that the National Guard has purchased the newly released Desktop Alert (DTA) USB Panic Button integration kit as an important protective measure to enhance force protection at crucial installation gate locations. The initial deployment of panic buttons will be installed across the state of Florida at various Florida National Guard locations.

Desktop Alert is the sole provider nationwide to both the National Guard and the Air National Guard for IP-Based Mass Notification. The new panic button feature seamlessly integrates with the National Guards DTA Mass Notification System.

Gate located panic buttons are covered with a clear protective shield to prevent accidental activations. Once guardsmen or security personnel activate the panic button alerts are triggered in 10 seconds or fewer and instantly sent to targeted computer workstations, key personnel landlines and cellphones as well as e-mail accounts and mobile devices for text message delivery. Post activation reports are then immediately published real-time for review of which targeted personnel acknowledged the alert.

This provides superior actionable-intelligence for our military clientele. Each panic button can be mapped to a preconfigured alerting scenario by selecting the scenario from a drop menu within the pop-up alerting interface installed on National Guard workstations.
